7:30 pm Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow 2012
Stuffing one of the world’s largest comedy festivals into the one show is no easy feat, but the Melbourne International Comedy Festival has done just that with Roadshow 2012. Offering a selection of Australian, international and special guest comedians, the Roadshow is literally all the best bits of the Comedy Festival condensed into the one ‘all killer, no filler’ travelling event. Last year, comedians taking part in Roadshow performed to enthusiastic crowds in 60 regional centres and capital cities across Australia – not to forget a highly successful stint in Singapore and a sold-out debut season in Hong Kong. Given such popularity, this year’s Roadshow plans to connect with even more comedy fans and share the kind of humour that’s had Melbourne weeping with laughter. More than 300 shows contained in one – you can’t get better value than that. Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow – coming to a town near you! 7:30 pm Signs of Life
WA Theatre Company – Black Swan preforming LIVE at the Cummins Theatre on the 21st of June 2012. SIGNS OF LIFE by Tim Winton Night falls. Alone in her farm house on the riverbank, Georgie Jutland hears noises out on the highway – car doors, voices, weeping. She’s recently widowed and a little spooked. It’s not just her – the entire world feels wrong, as if the land beneath her feet is dying. It hasn’t rained for years. The river has dried up and the olive grove is beginning to wither around her. A long way from help, Georgie goes out onto the verandah, preparing for trouble, and after the longest wait, a figure slowly emerges from the darkness. A man, an Aborigine, seeking help. He says he needs petrol. His sister is out in the car, screaming. They’ve been sleeping in it for days. Can she help? Should she trust them? And what do you do when guests settle in and show no inclination to move on? Signs of Life is a story about people with uncertain futures navigating with only shreds of the past to guide them. It’s about the mutual incomprehension between white and black – the anxiously safe and the pragmatic dispossessed – in country where nobody is really sure they belong anymore, and where everyone’s fate seems to have been determined by those who came before. Bitter and funny, this is a play in which a middle class, middle-aged white woman finds herself reluctantly sharing a house with black strangers – a stubborn man and his damaged sister – and they won’t explain why they’re here, why they’ve chosen her, what it is they’re so obviously searching for, and why she’s beginning to feel like a visitor in her own home? Who’s the host? Who’s the visitor? And what are all those shadows flitting across the sandy riverbed in the moonlight? Signs of Life is an opportunity to reflect on the ways in which people with radically different histories find themselves forming awkward, spiky alliances in order to survive. Tickets are NOW on sale from the Cummins Theatre office, Central Wheatbelt Visitors Centre (Merredin) and the Merredin Shire offices. CLICK HERE to purchase your tickets online Tickets are: Concession: $30, Adult: $40, Student (school aged students only) $10 NEW TICKET SPECIAL Two for one ticket deal – only valid for two tickets per person.
