About the Show:

Do you like secrets? Then you are going to love Gideon Irving. This quirky singer-storyteller has been travelling the globe performing secret shows in every town he visits and he is coming to Merredin this February to perform in a secret location for one night only. A troubadour in the truest sense of the word, Irving has traveled across several countries by bicycle, rollerblades, and car. He estimates that he has played about 600 concerts in people’s private homes, besides appearing at festivals and theaters through New Zealand, USA, Canada, England, Scotland, Germany and Nepal, and is bringing his show to homes across 14,000 kilometers of Australia for the first time.

“I’m a terrible person to talk to about my own show,” said the singer-storyteller with a laugh. “I have a menagerie of instruments. My show is rooted in surprise.”

He describes his performance as “Stove Top Folk”, when pressed further he describes Stove Top Folk as “a bit of this and some of that.”

The Merredin show, like all others on this tour, will be held in someone’s house. The secret location is revealed to those that book tickets which are free, however guests are invited to make a donation direct to Gideon on the evening on a sliding scale of $1 – $100 per person based on their enjoyment of the performance. CDs, tea towels and advice are also available for purchase or barter.

“Children are welcome so long as they are not awful children. Centenarians get VIP passes + a meet and greet before the show.” says Irving.

The aim of the evening is to bring all people from the community together in a joyful evening of storytelling, music, and merriment.

“Everything is possible, except me enjoying pickles. Disgusting. That won’t happen. I hate them.” he adds with a laugh.
