My Robot

My Robot takes audiences of all ages on a rambunctious adventure filled with robot antics, laughter, daring rescues and bewildered parents. When Ophelia moves with her family to the seaside, she’s not impressed. She doesn’t like the beach, misses her old home and thinks the people in this town are pretty strange.   While unpacking her room she discovers a mysterious box full of gadgets, parts and pieces, and a strange note that reads ‘You. Make. Me.’ Her curiosity gets the better of her and she spends all night assembling the objects into Olivetti, a robot with a typewriter chest and an alarm clock heart. Made up of pieces, but more than the sum of her parts. Together Ophelia and Olivetti take on the local bully and make friends with a child so worried about allergies that he never leaves the house, all while trying to keep her dad from discovering that Olivetti is really a robot. But a bigger challenge is coming – can the pair save their friend and reunite him with his mother? Spencer

Cummins Theatre is proud to present 'Spencer' byKaty Warner, the brand new Australian comedy-drama from one of Australia’s leading independent theatre companies LabKelpie that explores the fate of one gloriously dysfunctional Australian family across a weekend of love, laughs and pain. Spencer tells the story of a tight-knit family led by single-mum matriarch Marilyn (JaneClifton) and her three adult children–wayward daughter Jules (Fiona Harris), mouthy coulda-been Ben (Lyall Brooks) and AFL player and golden-boy Scott (JamiesonCaldwell). About to meet the young son–Spencer–he never knew he had, Scott and the family have returned home to help mark the occasion. With the surprise appearance of the father they barely remember (Roger Oakley), the entire family is forced to work together to clean up both the house and their own fractured relationships as the clock ticks down to Spencer’s arrival. Employing classic Australian vernacular and the penchant for humour to explore issues of self-acceptance, identity and depression, Spencer asks us to consider how much our family defines who we are, and whether we ever really grow up... Performance times: Doors open - 6:45pm Performance - 7:30pm - 90mins duration. MA 16+ - contains mild swearing.

Picasso and his dog

One fine spring morning in 1957, Lump arrived for lunch. Lump was an elongated sausage dog with floppy ears and an inquisitive nature. He looked around at Picasso’s villa and then into the deep, brown eyes of the man himself and decided he was home. From this first meeting, a deep love was forged between Picasso and Lump. He was also an inspiration for Picasso, appearing in fifty-four of the artist’s works. Lump lived with Picasso for 16 years. In a perfect ending, perhaps not content with life on earth without each other, both died in the same year. Inspired by this true story, Picasso and His Dog, is a delightful show that celebrates the animals with whom we share our lives while exploring what it is to be creative and to create. This work is a unique children’s puppet play that combines the art and story of Picasso with the extraordinary poems of Chilean poet Pablo Neruda and the text of Picasso’s contemporary and lifelong friend, Gertrude Stein. It is a refreshingly original work, wild and adventurous. Initially set in Picasso’s studio in the south of France, the story travels across time and space in a series of imaginative leaps using puppetry to transform the detailed set design as the performers play with scale, shadow puppetry, visual illusions, painting and sculpting on stage. Doors Open: 12:30pm Show: 1:00pm Duration: 1hr Ages: 4+

40 Year Old Pop Star

A great night out for the girls! After selling out shows for Perth's Fringe World ’40 Year Old Pop Star' is coming to the Cummins Theatre, starring Bruce Rock local, Alli Butler. Grab your tickets now! '40 Year Old Popstar' tells the story of a mum who leaves her job as the Sydney Opera House nurse, where she attends to the headaches and ingrown toenails of international superstars, and returns to the tiny country town where she was born to pursue a pop career of her own. Once arrived in this Wheatbelt town, which is more or less in the middle of nowhere, she acquires a few headaches of her own: like where is an audience that is not comprised of cows? How is she going to buy milk on a Sunday when all the shops are closed? Do you drink the champagne that is passed around at 11am at play group? In this one hour tour de force of original stories and songs, Alli Butler a stand-up comedian, singer-songwriter, nurse and 40 year old mum, who refuses to inject her face with Botox (this week), gives a hilarious self-portrait of her trajectory towards stardom amongst the sheep, cows and canola. Tickets can be purchased at www.trybooking.com/BIQFN or in person at the Central Wheatbelt Visitors Centre. Doors open at 7:30pm Show starts at 8:00pm Seating: General Admission Tickets $18 and include cheese and nibbles on arrival.   NO BYO drinks - Tivoli Bar open.

Comedy Gold!

COMEDY GOLD! One of the funniest touring Comedy Shows going around Australia "Comedy Gold" is back and this year  the line up is filled with Western Australia's most diverse, funniest, newest and most recognizable Stand Up Comedians. Your Feature act is none other than Peter Rowsthorn who is a  Comedy Icon and Veteran of more the 30 years on Australia's Stages and  T.V's. One of the most recognizable and much loved comedians Rowsthorn is a high energy, fast paced stand up comedian one minute and a measured character actor the next. Most recently, Peter has appeared regularly on "Thank God You're Here" series 1, 2, 3 and 4, popped up on "Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation" and can currently be seen hosting the delightful “Can We Help” on the ABC on Friday nights. But Peter is probably still best known as long-suffering husband and pants-man Brett Craig on “Kath & Kim”. Your M.C Cameron McLaren is a giant of the perth comedy scene and was awarded "Best Comedy at the WA Fringeworld .  Cameron has sold out Fringe shows across the country and was handpicked by the producer of Channel 7 to be the audience MC of Telethon. The West Australian described him in this role as "There is a genuine sense of fun in his delivery…this proves infectious."  Cameron is fun and loveable but can flirt with the line if the occasion requires. The audience are instantly put at ease with his silliness and you can tell he truly loves what he does." First up is new kid on the block Frankie who is on her first comedy tour. A newbie to Stand Up Comedy she is on work experience for this tour but don't be fooled she has a bright future ahead of her. Frankie has great stage presence…

A Fortunate Life

The Cummins Theatre, in conjunction with Theatre180 & CinemaStage present the Award-Winning Australian classic - "A Fortunate Life" Resilience, fortitude, love...an ordinary man’s extraordinary life in 20th century Western Australia. In 2020, a striking collaboration between artists of stage and screen honours the trials and triumphs of extraordinary everyman A.B. Facey, whose award-winning Australian classic autobiography, ‘A Fortunate Life’, has been adapted for theatrical presentation. Stuart Halusz, Artistic Director of THEATRE 180, is thrilled to be working with new entertainment platform, CinemaStage, to bring this classic 20th century tale into a new era of storytelling, with live performances at cinemas throughout Western Australia.   ‘A Fortunate Life’ embraces themes that are intrinsic to our history and culture as modern Australians - resilience, fortitude, hope and integrity, bringing the beloved bushland to the big screen and placing humanity centre-stage. As A.B. Facey’s extraordinary story unfolds, audio-visual projections and live actors evoke distinct natural environments, definitive historic events, and the daily grind of farmers, settlers and city dwellers throughout 20th century Western Australia. All ages are invited to experience this ground-breaking theatrical production - connect with generations past and present through this incredible true story and gain insight from Facey’s experiences as a bushman, sportsman, railway ganger, a World War 1 soldier and a 20th century family man. This is a unique opportunity to become immersed in modern history and experience the combined impact of live theatre and cinema. www.afortunatelife.com.au     facebook.com/afortunatelifeproduction

Margaret Fulton the Musical

The Cummins Theatre and Jally Entertainment present... Margaret Fulton the Musical A musical biography of a true Aussie legend based on her bestselling autobiography. Margaret Fulton reigned supreme on our country’s cooking scene, awarded an OAM in 1983 and later identified as a National Living Treasure. The Margaret Fulton Cookbook encouraged Australian housewives to experiment with more interesting ingredients, straying from the old tradition of meat and three veg. This delightful musical romp follows her journey from humble beginnings to super-stardom. Before Margaret Fulton burst into the nation’s kitchens in 1969 with her burnt orange crockpots and chunky stoneware serving dishes, encouraging housewives to try their hand at Nasi Goreng and Apricot Chicken, Australian food was bland, boring and British, or overly fussy, fancy and French! The Margaret Fulton Cookbook, with hundreds of recipes, step-by step instructions, hints, tips and full-colour pictures, was a huge success, and taught a generation of women how to make delicious, economical dishes for family and friends. The era of the dinner party was born!  Armed with a fondue set, a pressure cooker and their new confidence, women transformed themselves from family cooks to elegant hostesses, serving Chicken Liver Pâté, Sweet and Sour Pork and Chocolate Self-Saucing Pudding. Margaret’s book sold over 1.5 million copies. In 1983 Margaret was awarded an Order of Australia in recognition of her services to cookery, and in 2006 she was named by the National Trust as an Australian Living National Treasure. In 2009 Margaret was named as one of the 25 Australians who have most changed the nation.  Sadly, Margaret Fulton passed away on July 24th, 2019, she was 94 years old! Doors open - 6:45pm Show starts - 7:30pm

Pete the Sheep

The Cummins Theatre presents A Monkey Baa Theatre Company production Pete the Sheep Adapted for the stage by Eva Di Cesare, Sandra Eldridge & Tim McGarry Based on the book by Jackie French and Bruce Whatley Adapted by Monkey Baa in 2014 from the picture book by Jackie French and Bruce Whatley, with foot-tapping music and lyrics by Phil Scott and comedic direction by Jonathan Biggins, Pete the Sheep is a lively and mischievous award-winning musical for young audiences and their adults. Shaun isn’t like the other Shearers in Shaggy Gully… he’d rather be styling than shearing and instead of ‘sheep-dog’, he has a ‘sheep-sheep’ named Pete. After being rejected by the shearers and their dogs, Shaun and Pete set up their own Shearing Salon in town and before long word is out and they are inundated with woolly clients and maybe a Ringer or two! This hilarious show, imaginatively told by four performers playing shearers, dogs and sheep explores the challenges and rewards of being an individual and will be a lasting tribute to honouring your own spirit and strength, whilst working with the flock. The Little Prince

Cummins Theatre is proud to present The Little Prince Take flight with your imagination with Spare Parts Puppet Theatre’s acclaimed production of The Little Prince adapted by Simon Clarke from the book by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. With its timeless message about the importance of friendship, The Little Prince is an adventure story that celebrates the richness of human feeling and imagination. One of the most widely read books in history - 140 million copies sold worldwide and printed in more than 250 languages and dialects including braille - Saint-Exupéry’s exquisite tale tells the story of a curious prince who leaves his tiny home planet and journeys across the universe, discovering that adults have very strange ideas about the things that really matter “The work speaks strongly about what really matters in life. It isn’t expensive or flashy things that have the greatest value, it’s the people we form relationships with,” he said. Jiri Zmitko’s design cleverly reveals the tiny world of the Prince, the Sahara desert and the stars of the night sky. His hand carved puppets of the Fox, the Snake, the Little Prince and the Rose, are characters sure to live on in the audience’s imagination.” Lee Buddle’s music creates a mood of mystery - and is so beautifully performed by world-renowned pianist Ross Bolleter - Karen Cook’s lighting design transports us from the world we know to the magical realm of the Prince and performers Shane Adamczak and Kylie Bywaters have endeared themselves to audiences with great charm and humour.” Duration: 50mins plus a 10mins Q & A Rating: All Ages Tickets: Adult $20 | Child $15 | Family $60 (2A+2C)

Is the discovery of Hassan’s back story enough to save him from Chloe’s desire to protect her position in her new-found friendship group? Directed by Sasha Zahra and written by Duncan Graham, Amphibian was created with the guidance of cultural consultants Muzafar Ali and Elyas Alavi. Muzafar’s real life experiences inspired the Windmill Theatre Company team to create the digital platform Across Land and Sea , which tells Muzafar’s story of fleeing from Afghanistan. Across land and Sea is linked to the Australian Curriculum through the comprehensive study guide for Amphibian which is available to all schools attending the show.  **Warning occasional course language.
