NEW EVENT ALERT - EMMA DONOVAN IS COMING TO MERREDIN THIS JULY!!✨

This project showcases the talent & the new work of celebrated, ARIA-nominated, award-winning Indigenous singer & songwriter Emma Donovan as she tours the heartland of Australia. This will be an opportunity for the winner of the Australia Council for the Arts 2022 First Nations Arts and Culture Fellowship to share her new music with regional and remote audiences.

The 80min concerts (plus interval) will include her trademark soul/country songs and new music recorded in Gumbaynggirr and Noongar languages. Emma proudly is one of the First Nations artists, spearheading efforts to put traditional languages on the music map. She will also share stories, providing her audiences with an understanding of Country & community.

Joining Emma (vocals/ukulele) will be Steve Magnusson (guitar) & Samuel Anning (double bass)

MEET THE SONGBIRD CAST: TYREN MACLOU 🎭

Tyren (Tre) Maclou is a proud Aboriginal/South African Australian, currently in his final year of the bachelor’s degree in Acting at WAAPA. He completed cert. IV in Aboriginal Theatre and Performance in 2020 and has since done many various WAAPA projects/shows including Even Hands (Xylo), Rockstars (Nat King Cole), Our Country’s Good (LT Faddy), The Brink (Ensemble), King Lear (King Lear), Orestes (Fury–Tisiphone), Accent Monologues (Persian/Iranian), Samovilla (Plague / God),
Much Ado About Nothing (Conrade), Fatherland (Craig Mutch). Tyren also has voice-acting experience.

Tyren worked with Black Swan Theatre on Krakouer Brothers and Cloudstreet at Yule Brook College in 2013. That year he also performed in the Footloose at Rose Bay High School. In 2018 he worked with Screen West on a short film Brothers. Tyren worked on a show REST for the Fringe Festival in 2020 and since that year he has worked on Yirra Yaarnz for Yirra Yaakin.

MEET THE SONGBIRD CAST: OWEN HASLUCK🎭

Owen is a proud Noongar man and actor, born and raised in Perth. After graduating from Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts' (WAAPA) Aboriginal course in 2018 and a Diploma of Acting in 2020, Owen jumped across the country to continue training at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) Bachelor of Acting in 2021 having just graduated in November of 2023.

During Owens years of studying, he performed in an array of productions including
A Midsummer Night's Dream (2022), Three Sisters (2022), Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2023) and A Very Expensive Poison (2023).

Owen was a recipient of the Keith Bain Award for Excellence in Movement at
NIDA.

MEET THE SONGBIRD CAST: KIRA FEENEY 🎭

Kira Feeney (she/they) is a proud Pakana woman who grew up on Wathawurrung land in Victoria with a passion for the performing arts. They moved to Boorloo (Perth) in 2021 to complete the Aboriginal Performance course at WAAPA, where they also discovered a passion for stage management and they have since completed their Advanced Diploma in Stage Management. When not on - stage or backstage, Kira can be found in her own world, with her guitar, writing music.

Kira is beyond excited to be working with Yirra Yaakin to bring 'Songbird' to life!
